Baseball FAQs
If you
have a question that isn't addressed
here, submit it to the Board for future
visitors to read.
Q - When does
the Baseball Board meet?
The Baseball Board
meets the second Sunday of the month,
6:30pm at Skyline Lanes. HBA members
are welcome.
Q - I disagree
with the way my child's coach is handling
the players. What should I do?
Discuss the situation
with the coach. If things cannot be
resolved contact your league coordinator.
That person will take care of the
situation or bring the problem to
the board.
Q - The equipment
needs repair or replacement. Who handles
this request?
HBA has an equipment
manager that will discuss this request
with you.
Q - Should coaches
be scheduling practices?
Coaches should
schedule practices when they can.
Sometimes the fields are in use but
we have several grassy areas that
can be utilized in the community for
basic skills development.
Q - My child's
birth date does not allow him to remain
at the same playing level as his classmates.
Will the board make an exception to
this Little League rule?
HBA supports the
Little League rules which allow a
younger player to play up to the next
level but an older player cannot play
down to the previous level.
Q - What is
the HBA chemical use policy?
Read the official
policy here.
Q - Who is responsible
for maintenance at Fichtner Fields?
Maintenance at
Fichtner Park is a combination of
the High School, The City of Hermantown
and HBA. Click on the Fields section
for further information.
Q - Who should
I contact with improvement suggestions
for Fichtner Field?
Improvements can
be submitted to any HBA Board member
or directly to the City of Hermantown
Park Board.
Q - How do I
know when games are cancelled?
Games cancelled
due to weather will be announced on
KDAL 610 radio. Your Coach will also
try to contact you and this site will
be a resource.
Q - At what
age can players wear metal cleats?
Metal cleats are
allowed at the Senior level (13&14
year olds ) and beyond.
Q - How are
teams picked at each level?
Coaches and Coordinators
use a number system to rate each players
ability and alternate picking until
all players have been placed on a
team. HBA tries very hard to keep
regular season teams evenly matched.
Q - How are
the All-Star teams chosen?
Typically the All-Star
teams are chosen by an ongoing evaluation.
This evaluation starts when the players
hit the field and play thru June 15th
or so. The coaches then make recommendations
and vote on the top athletes. Team
tryouts have also been utilized in
the past.
Q - I would
like to coach a team, who do I contact?
To volunteer as
a coach, you should contact a member
of the HBA Board.
Q - Why are
criminal background checks requested
of coaches and managers?
Criminal background
checks are part of the Little League
Child Protection Program designed
to protect the players from potential
predators. They are a requirement
of the National Little League organization.
After we use your private information
like social security number, the forms
are kept for the remainder of the
season and then shredded to protect
your identity.
Q - Is Tobacco
use allowed at Fichtner Park?
No - Fichtner Park
is a tobacco free zone.
Q - Can you
breakdown the different team levels?
HBA has organized
teams at the following levels. T-Ball,
Rookies, Minors, Majors, Seniors,
VFW and Legion.
Q - How can
I become a team sponsor.
Contact Scott Hansen
for all the details.
Q - How are
umpires selected and what ages are
allowed to ump?
A signup sheet
is available on registration days
for interested Umpires. The Ump needs
to be playing at least one level above
the level he/she will be working.
Q - Who should
I contact about a poor umpire?
If you experience
a poor umpire, discuss the situation
with your Coach who can contact the
level coordinator. Please remember
our Umpires are learning just like
the players.
